The 2013 National NAIDOC Awards were held in Perth last week where 10 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians were honoured for their outstanding achievements and contributions in their chosen fields.

Almost 50 years ago, the Yolngu people of Yirrkala in Arnhem Land sent two bark petitions framed by traditional ochre paintings of clan designs to the Australian House of Representatives.

The recently constructed Tjuwanpa Women’s Centre has provided a dedicated meeting and learning space for Aboriginal women in the remote Hermannsburg region of the Northern Territory.
