National Science Week 2022: How to get involved

National Science Week is an annual celebration of science and technology. This celebration is an opportunity to learn more about the world, the work of scientists, inventors and spark your own curiosity.

There is a range of virtual and online activities and events as well as DIY activities to try at home. There are activities and events for all age groups.

Some of the National Science Week  events include:

Dreamtime Connections Guided Walk (21 August) Join Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections on a guided walk through Mulligans Flat in Canberra. The walk will look at Native plants and their uses in foods and medicines.

Online - Aboriginal Ranger STEM virtual excursion into published books – Crocodile monitoring – (15 August) A recording of the live event of Kakadu National Park and DEMED Rangers from the NT presenting 25 mins each on how and why they harvest crocodile eggs.

Online - Chemistry in Remote Aboriginal Communities in WA (15 August) The aim of the activity is to spark a curiosity of chemistry that can be found all around us and to demonstrate the link between current scientific methods and Aboriginal science.

Online - Aboriginal Ranger STEM virtual excursion into published books – Turtle monitoring (16 August) See footage of digging up the nests and counting the hatchlings' success. See how the Rangers use technology to document data and how & why this data is analysed.

Online - Aboriginal Rangers STEM & Cultural Restoration (17 August) Indigenous Rangers in Esperance, WA will present their scientific, research, and culturally sensitive conservation activities.
