Minister Scullion: New Aboriginals Benefit Account funding round

9 Aug 2016
Indigenous organisations in the Northern Territory are being invited to apply for funding under a new Aboriginals Benefit Account (ABA) funding round that opens on 23 August 2016. Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said funding was available for projects that provided lasting benefits for Aboriginal people living and working in Northern Territory communities. “The ABA is a trust fund that supports a wide range of one-off projects that benefit Indigenous communities – including by improving infrastructure and education outcomes, and creating jobs through support for business development,” Minister Scullion said. “I encourage local organisations committed to improving the lives of people living in Northern Territory Indigenous communities to apply for funding.” The Aboriginals Benefit Account was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. The account is funded by payments from the Commonwealth equivalent to the value of royalties paid by mining interests on Aboriginal land in the Northern Territory. Applications under this funding round will close on 20 September 2016 at 12pm Central Standard Time. Further information on the application process is available on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s website.
