Minister Scullion: Congratulations to graduates of the Indigenous Australian Government Development Programme

11 Dec 2014

Thirty Indigenous Australians have graduated today from the 2013-14 Indigenous Australian Government Development Programme.

Minister Scullion presented Diplomas of Government to the graduates during a ceremony at the Department of Education building in Canberra.

"I congratulate the graduates on their achievements," the Minister said.

"The graduates have worked hard and demonstrated their commitment throughout the programme and I wish them all the best in their future careers within the Australian Public Service."

The Indigenous Australian Government Development Programme is a 15-month programme jointly administered by the Department of Education and the Department of Employment.

The programme aims to increase the number of Indigenous employees within the Australian Public Service, increase the capability of Commonwealth agencies to deliver policies and programmes to Indigenous Australians, and provide participants with an opportunity to gain a diploma qualification and the skills to support a career in the public service.

Minister Scullion said today's graduates are working across nine Commonwealth agencies, including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Social Services, Department of Human Services, Department of Education and Department of Employment.

"Importantly, the graduates come from every state and territory in Australia."
