Call for applications to join the National NAIDOC Committee

5 Aug 2015

Applications are now open for membership of the National NAIDOC Committee for the next three years.

The National NAIDOC Committee makes key decisions on National NAIDOC activities each year, including the focus city, theme, National NAIDOC Poster Competition winner and National NAIDOC award recipients.

National NAIDOC Committee Co-chairs Anne Martin and Benjamin Mitchell are inviting suitable applicants to submit an expression of interest.

“Membership of the Committee is for a three year term, and in that time we get to meet some really inspirational people and draw attention to key topics affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I encourage those with a passion for NAIDOC to submit an application,” Ms Martin said.

“It is such an honour to be part of the National NAIDOC Committee and to highlight each year the achievements of so many deserving individuals. We are looking forward to involving our new Committee members in the important work leading up to the 2016 celebrations,” Mr Mitchell said.

Membership of the National NAIDOC Committee requires substantial commitment, including willingness to travel to attend committee meetings on weekends. It is voluntary and no remuneration is provided for the position; however, travel and accommodation are covered.

Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent to apply.

More information and the selection criteria can be found on the NAIDOC Website.

Applications close on Monday 31 August 2015. Successful applicants will commence duties in September 2015.

Successful applicants are expected to be available to attend a Committee meeting in Darwin on 26 September 2015 to begin planning for NAIDOC Week 2016.
