2016 Working on Country Photography competition: full list of award-winners

The full list of award-winners for the 2016 Working on Country Photography competition is now available. The winners were announced at the launch of the Working on Country Photography Competition Exhibition at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The biennial competition is a celebration of the 170 Indigenous Ranger and Indigenous Protected Area groups working to protect almost 60 million hectares of Australia’s natural and cultural assets. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ continuous presence and cultural ties to traditional lands are represented in the photos. They’re a glimpse into the important and unique conservation work Indigenous people carry out across the country for the benefit of all Australians. 2016 Working on Country Photography Competition Winners: Working on Country Award, First Place - Djelk Rangers for ‘Sharing Traditional Knowledge on Country with Djelk Woman Rangers’ Working on Country Award, Second Place - Martu Ranger Program for ‘Jigalong Ranger, Justin Watson, looking after country through fire’ Women on Country Award – Josephine Grant (Muru-warinyi Ankkul Rangers) for ‘Burning Warlmanpa Country’ Students on Country Award – Lacey Edwards (Gumma Indigenous Protected Area) for ‘Colourful family of bugs’ Youth Award – Solodi Buthungguliwuy (Crocodile Islands Rangers) for – Crocodile Islands Rangers conducting a shorebird survey at Rocky Point, on Milingimbi Island

You can also vote for your favourite photograph as part of the People's Choice award or find out more about the exhibition in Canberra. The People’s Choice award will be decided after voting closes on 11 July 2016. The Indigenous Rangers - Working on Country program creates meaningful employment, training and career pathways for Indigenous people in land and sea management.
