Woolworths commits to 1,600 more Indigenous jobs

4 May 2016
Woolworths Limited has just launched an agreement with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to nearly double its Indigenous workforce over the next three years. The company has committed to employing an additional 1,600 Indigenous Australians under the Employment Parity Initiative. Jobs will be available across Australia with a particular focus on regional communities. Positions will be spread across all aspects of the business including customer service, bakery, butchery, hardware and homewares. Participants of the Woolworths Employment Parity Initiative, Grace Welsh, Khan Cameron, Robert Bush and Larissa Fraser attended the launch in Redfern and said they were excited to be part of such a fantastic initiative. “My experience with this initiative has been remarkable,” Grace said. “I wake up each morning with a smile on my face and when I walk in the door at Woolworths, there are smiles all round and such a welcome. It has changed my life so much, it makes me want to strive to be a better person.” Grace started with Woolworths in 2015 and was one of the first participants of the Employment Parity Initiative. She now works in customer service in the Aberglasslyn store, about 10 minutes from Maitland, and has loved every minute so far. “I’ve learnt so much and the support that Woolworths has given me has been amazing. I just want to continue to improve my skills and if I’m ever in doubt about anything, I just ask. “I would definitely recommend working here, I can see myself staying for a really long time.” Grace said.
