MSS Security has signed an agreement with the Australian Government to grow its Indigenous employment rate from 2.3 per cent to 6.5 per cent by the end of 2018-19.

Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, who launched MSS Security’s Employment Parity Initiative (EPI) Agreement in Parliament House today, said the Government was working with Australia’s largest employers to ensure their workforces reflected the size of Australia’s Indigenous population.

“If we can reach employment parity – 3 per cent of the workforce – with these companies by 2020, more than 20,000 First Australians will have jobs,” Minister Scullion said.

“Under the EPI, the Government helps companies with any additional costs of employing and retaining disadvantaged, long-term unemployed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“MSS Security already employs 124 First Australians and I congratulate the company for committing to employ a further 350 Indigenous staff by the end of its EPI Agreement. Most of these jobs will be full time and in metropolitan, regional and remote parts of the country.

“MSS Security expects its Indigenous employment rate to rise from the current 2.3 per cent to 6.5 per cent – more than double the parity rate of 3 per cent – by the end of 2018-19 and this is a great example of how the initiative can not only help companies achieve parity, but go beyond to create even more opportunities for First Australians.”

MSS Security's Managing Director, Mike McKinnon, said MSS was pleased to make the commitment to the Indigenous Parity Initiative.

“As one of Australia's largest privately owned employers it is appropriate that we play our part in promoting the Indigenous initiatives of the Federal Government,” Mr McKinnon said.
