World Ranger Day – a look back over the past year
To celebrate World Ranger Day, Indigenous.gov.au honours the sacrifice and work of Australia’s Indigenous Rangers by looking back at ranger stories from the past year.
The preservation of ecosystems, the protection of at risk species and the maintenance of much of the world’s natural heritage is largely in the hands of men and women known as Rangers.
Every year on the 31 July the world celebrates their courage, sacrifice and important work, often performed at the risk of their own lives.
To honour Australia’s Indigenous Rangers who preserve our unique natural heritage, Indigenous.gov.au looks back at the ranger stories we’ve published in the past year:
- Nantawarrina, the first IPA in Australia
- A dream job on Country and on Sea
- Paruku Rangers working hard to preserve the elusive Night Parrot
- Achieving a childhood dream – Cody Millar
- Saving the natural heritage of Nantawarrina IPA from feral goats
- Big croc draws a crowd on Bathurst Island
- Rangers supporting tourism in the Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area
- Caring for Land and Sea - Bawinanga (Djelk) Sea Rangers
