Sixty different organisations will be delivering projects for women across Australia with funding under the Women’s Leadership and Development Program (WLDP).
Approved projects will improve outcomes for women, with estimates showing that almost 40,000 women will benefit. The funding will create more choice in work and less barriers to employment.
A number of these projects will provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, through organisations such as First Nations Foundation and Murawin Pty Ltd.
Funded activities will boost Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s employment opportunities by increasing work choices and addressing barriers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women working in the paid workforce. It will also support job opportunities for women leaders in rural and remote areas, as well as women who have experienced family and domestic violence.
Among the organisations running the projects is Indigenous Employment Partners Ltd, which will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women across Australia to retain employment, improve career pathways and leadership skills including support and mentoring to re-skill or up-skill. Under the WDLP, Indigenous Employment Partners Ltd will be provided with $798,000 to deliver individually tailored support and mentoring through different channels.
Sara Stuart who is the CEO at Indigenous Employment Partners said, “This is an exciting opportunity for us. This program has been designed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, to provide support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. This funding will create employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in areas where women are traditionally under represented.”
“The program will also see benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander women seeking to return to the workforce. The program supports participants through a range of tailored pre-employment training programs, post placement support and mentoring, career pathway and leadership development.”
