Voting is Easy

Culture and Capability

Voting in the 2013 Federal election is important because it is an opportunity to have a say on who represents you about issues that are important to you and your community.

Voting in the 2013 Federal election is important because it is an opportunity to have a say on who represents you about issues that are important to you and your community.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is encouraging all Australians, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enrol and vote in the federal election on 7 September.

To help with voting, the Australian Electoral Commission has published a video called ‘Voting is Easy’ that provides helpful tips about voting on election day.

‘Voting is Easy’ has been posted on the AEC’s Facebook page and can also be viewed through their YouTube Channel.

The AEC’s Indigenous Electoral Participation Program is a Closing the Gap initiative. It engages with communities to provide culturally appropriate information to promote electoral participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voters.

In Australia, you must enrol and vote if you’re an Australian citizen aged 18 or over. If you are not enrolled, you cannot have your say on who represents you about issues that are important to you and your community.

If you have any questions or need assistance with enrolling you can call the Australian Electoral Commission on 13 23 26 , or visit the Australian Electoral Commission website.
