Mount Isa-based Uncle Wilfred is a proud Kalkadoon man with cerebral palsy. As a much respected elder, he helped to found the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Disability Network of Queensland, which advocates for a fair go for Indigenous Australians with disability.
“There was a need for a voice out there for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities,” Uncle Wilfred said.
“We’re fighters, we don’t back down.”
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations recognised day held annually on 3 December and which celebrates the contributions and achievements of people with disability.
