Wynston Shovellor-Sesar is one of the West Kimberley’s first participants to reach his 26 week milestone as part of the Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) program.
Wynston is a Karajarri Ranger working as part of the Karajarri Healthy Country Program through his host employer, the Kimberley Land Council (KLC).
After reaching this 26 week milestone, he is well on his way to completing his Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management.
Wynston said he enjoyed his job working on country.
“It involves working outdoors, mainly managing and protecting the land,” he said.
Wynston had the privilege of joining a KLC led learning exchange program to Canada in 2014 with the Winston Churchill Fellowship.
The group visited the First Nations People to discuss conservation and land management issues, share stories and cultural knowledge. Wynston was also part of a dance group that performed for other groups during the exchange.
He said the exchange was a great experience.
“We learned and saw some of the things the First Nations People did in British Columbia,” he said.
Wynston plans to complete his Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management with the KLC, taking him beyond the VTEC program and leading him into long-term employment.
