Culture and Capability
An animated figure of a large bird in flight holding a frog in its mouth. Underneath them is a water hole, an escarpment, rocks and trees.

Jirraginy joo Goorrarndal: Frog and Brolga is a story shared by the Gija Community of WA about how the landscape, plants, animals and the Gija people came into being.

For thousands of years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been telling stories about the creation of their Country, their ancestors and their enduring links to culture and all things sacred to them.

SharingStories Foundation have launched a series of multi-touch books ‘Stories from Country’ which bring these creation stories to life through new technologies.

Jirraginy joo Goorrarndal: Frog and Brolga is a creation story produced by the Gija Community with the foundation. The work is bilingual and creatively explores how an event at the Gawarre (Bungle Bungles) brought the landscape, plants, animals and the Gija people into being.
