The chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) Justin Mohamed recently joined with the AFL Indigenous All Stars team to launch Australia’s first Aboriginal Health app.

The team took time out to support closing the gap in Indigenous health before they left to play a two test International Rules series in Ireland.

NACCHO is encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Islander people to support the app and since going live the free “Aboriginal Health in Aboriginal Hands” app has become a popular accessory with more than being downloaded from the App Store and Google Android store.

“The NACCHO app contains a geo locator, which will help our community find the nearest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations throughout Australia,” Justin said.

“The app provides health information online and telephone on a wide range of topics and where you can go to get more information or assistance should you need urgent help.”

The NACCHO app-locations allows users to share, connect or contact NACCHO through their social media platforms includingTwitter, Facebook, daily news alerts and the NACCHO website.

The app also allows people to donate to the NACCHO Sport Health Futures program.

The Sport Health Futures program aims to distribute up to 1,000 AFL/NRL footballs, netballs, soccer balls, basketballs and other sports equipment to Indigenous community organisations, sporting clubs and schools throughout Australia.
