The Australian Public Service Commission is calling for applications for the 2015 Australian Public Service (APS) Indigenous Pathways Programs for Indigenous Graduates and Trainees.
An initiative of the APS Indigenous Employment Strategy, the Australian Public Service Commission works in partnership with APS agencies to provide employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The aim of the program is to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with the right skills and knowledge to join the Government workforce. You can transition your studies into a career or look to combine paid work with a structured training and development program.
Working for the Australian Government is proving to be the right career choice for former graduate program participant, Waiben man Matthew James and former trainee program participant, Saibai woman Kawatag Doyle.
Matthew, a former Pathways graduate with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, believes that a career within the APS has given him the perfect opportunity to gain experience working on a wide range of policy and social issues which affect all Australians.
“My current role as a Client Feedback Officer involves managing feedback received via the department’s official channels,” Matthew said.
“The most rewarding aspect of my current role is working alongside some wonderful people, and under the guidance and support of a great supervisor. “
For Kawatag, a former Pathways trainee at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, her traineeship has helped her build the foundations of a solid career path.
“Completing the Indigenous Pathways Program has been a very rewarding experience as I have made strong networks throughout my traineeship,” she said.
“I now have a better understanding of the APS, especially since working in the Delivery part of the Department. I’m enjoying the opportunity to see the positive outcomes and opportunities programs can create for community members, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous.”
