The National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions that community organisations and services around Australia make to supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions that community organisations and services around Australia make to supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Awards also celebrate the quality, innovation and dedication of homelessness services.

The 2013 National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards are an opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions that community organisations make to supporting people who are homeless or vulnerable in our communities.

Services, organisations, and their partners, from across Australia that are making a significant contribution to addressing homelessness issues - either at a local, regional, state or national level – are encouraged to nominate.

Among Indigenous people, the rate of homelessness is significantly higher than for non-Indigenous people. There are services in the community working tirelessly every day to support Indigenous Australians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Category 5 of the awards is open to those who provide Excellence in addressing Indigenous homelessness.

Children’s Services Support Unit (CSSU) in Wadeye, in the Northern Territory, which provides a safe place for women and children who are have experienced family or domestic violence, or are at risk of harm or neglect, was recognised as a 2012 Award winner.

The Wadeye Safe House offers services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to women seeking emergency accommodation. CSSU is making a real difference to the lives of Indigenous women and their children in Wadeye.
