The National Indigenous Youth Parliament was run by the Australian Electoral Commission, in partnership with the YMCA, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Indigenous Australian’s right to vote in federal elections.

The Australian Government supports the work of the National Congress of Australia’s First People and assisted with the funding and organisation of the Congress Youth Program.

Congress membership is free and open to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person aged 18 years or older. Indigenous organisations may also apply for membership.

The Australian Government provides a number of other services to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth leadership, including the Indigenous Leadership Program.
