In this Newslines Radio program, Jodie Brahim and Shanhan Mullins from Darwin talk about the great mining jobs they found after completing the Australian Government-funded Indigenous Mines Pre-Employment Program.
“We went into Casuarina a couple of times and I’d always get people asking ‘what are you doing, wearing overalls? What type of work do you do?’ And when you tell them, it’s ‘good on you’,” Shanhan said.
“It’s always perceived as a man’s type of work so for women to get out there, especially Indigenous, and go all for it, I think is inspirational.
“There were some women who thought ‘wow, if she can do it, I can do it’.”
