The focus is on how all Australians can come together and recognise the contributions, cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Newslines Radio looks at the support that is building for constitutional change across the country.
Last weekend the ‘Journey to Recognition’ got underway from Melbourne’s Federation Square. The first leg of the journey will travel from Victoria through to South Australia and then finish at the Garma Festival in Arnhem Land in August.
Along the way, community information meetings will be held and supporters will be recruited to lead people on the road to recognition
The Australian Government is committed to pursuing meaningful change in the Constitution – change that unites the nation and reflects the hopes and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Newslines Radio caught up with two young Indigenous leaders, Shannan Dodson and Kelsi Forrest, to talk about recognition.
