Newslines Radio: Pride for family’s first home owners
We look at how the Australian dream of owning your own home can become a reality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians having opportunities to own their own home to provide safe and secure environments for their families, which is a key part of Closing the Gap in Indigenous disadvantage.
Newslines speaks with Graeme and Lee Willis from Alice Springs who after renting for many years in decided that the best thing for their family was to buy their own home.
Lee told Newslines: “We didn’t buy the best house in the street, it was a very basic house. We have done it up lots ourselves a little bit over the years and it would be one of the nicest ones on the street now I would think”.
