Newslines Radio: NITV – stories and voices in our hands, part two

Culture and Capability

NITV has made an impact since they went free to air on a dedicated Indigenous channel on SBS in December last year.

NITV has made an impact since they went free to air on a dedicated Indigenous channel on SBS in December last year.

An important focus for NITV is their news and sport programs.

NITV News is the only nightly television news service that covers entirely Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories from across the country in its half hour bulletin.

In this program Newslines speaks to NITV News presenter Natalie Ahmat and head of NITV Sport Mark Ella.

Natalie Ahmat told Newslines that the service they provide is important because it gives Indigenous people an outlet to get their views heard to a national audience.

“It goes without saying that it is important that we have a national voice, and not just a voice but that our stories are told by us from our perspective,” Natalie said.
