Newslines Radio: Closing the Gap in Mount Gambier - Part 1

We look at the ways Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation is working to Close the Gap in Mount Gambier, South Australia.

Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation is making a big difference to the lives of Indigenous people in Mount Gambier by helping to deliver a broad range of Australian Government programs to the community.

In this Newslines Radio program, the first in a two-part series on Mount Gambier, South Australia, we talk to Burrandies CEO Emma Hay.

“We understand that, if we’re ever going to make a difference in our lives then we can’t just only provide employment services or training services or health and wellbeing, that you need to be working with individuals and communities in a holistic sense,” Emma said.

Burrandies has had some great success, particularly with the Indigenous Community Links and Indigenous Employment programs.

Emma tells Newslines that encouraging people to become engaged in their community then leads to better outcomes in employment, schooling and health, helping to close the gap in Indigenous disadvantage.
