Launch of the National Anti-Racism Strategy: Racism. It Stops With Me.
On 24 August 2012 the Australian Human Rights Commission launched the National Anti-Racism Strategy for Australia, at an event highlighting the importance of Indigenous art and culture. The Strategy aims to promote a clear understanding in the Australian community of what racism is, and how it can be prevented and reduced. The Strategy will be implemented over the next three years as part of the Australian Government’s The People of Australia – Australia’s Multicultural Policy.
Central to the Australian Government’s efforts to close the gap on Indigenous disadvantage, is a commitment to building stronger relationships with Indigenous people, based on mutual respect. The implementation of the Anti-Racism Strategy supports this commitment and will include messages on systemic racism and also encourage and engage young people in talking about racism, particularly in relation to Indigenous Australians.
Individuals and organisations are encouraged to support the new Anti-Racism Strategy message, ‘Racism. It stops with me’, by visiting the Anti-Racism Strategy website.
