Kiara's journey to support her community

Jobs, Land and Economy

Community Solutions has helped Kiara, an 18-year-old Quandamooka woman, to embark on her career journey.

With the support of their apprentice and trainee team, she has found her calling in the community services sector and is studying a Certificate III in Community Service. After working in casual hospitality and retail roles, embarking on this traineeship has been transformative in shaping her career path.

While completing her certificate, she is working at Community Solutions Maroochydore as part of the Workforce Australia and Disability Employment Services - her first ever full-time role.

'Since I've been involved with Community Solutions, my view on things has changed. I've learned not to judge a book by its cover,' Kiara said.

'It doesn't really matter where we're from or what we've been through – what counts are the steps we take to move ahead.'

Kiara's background took her from Redland Bay to Mount Morgan and Rockhampton, eventually settling on the Sunshine Coast with her partner and his family. In addition to completing her traineeship and studies, Kiara is committed to obtaining her driver's license, buying her own car and living independently - all important steps in her long-term career goals and increases her personal freedom.

Kiara looks forward to progressing her career within the community service sector - her ultimate passion is making a difference in her community.

'What I love most about my role is the diversity of people, learning new things ... and how much this has helped me grow my confidence and skills,' she said.
