Culture and Capability

We congratulate the 16 Indigenous Australians competing in 11 different sports at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and wish them success as they represent our country on the world stage.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics begins tonight (23 July) after a long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A favourite part of every Olympics is the opening ceremony featuring the entrance of the national teams into the Olympic stadium.

Co-flag bearer and leading the Australian team will be Nunga man and Australian basketballer, Patty Mills.

He will be joined by 15 other Indigenous athletes participating in 11 different sports.

We congratulate them and wish them well as they represent Australia in their respective sports.
