Indigenous groups across Australia will benefit from funding received through the $25 million Local Solutions Fund.

Indigenous groups across Australia will benefit from funding received through the $25 million Local Solutions Fund.

These community projects will support local people to prepare for, and participate in education and employment activities in ten Local Government Areas as part of the Butter Futures, Local Solutions initiative.

Community organisations in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia have received funding for projects in their local communities to create better futures for Indigenous Australians.

The Salvation Army in Hume, Victoria, received $96,000 for the Crossroads Indigenous Youth and Family Project.  This project supports Indigenous youth who are disengaged from education and training to develop the work skills to get a job.

The Shellharbour Aboriginal Community Youth Association Inc (SACYA) in NSW received $83,000 for the SACYA Oakleigh Park Hall project. SACYA will use mainstream curriculum and Life Skills programs to help Indigenous students gain skills and confidence so they can go on to achieve long-term employment.

In Kwinana, Western Australia, three projects received funding and it is anticipated that a number of people receiving support from these projects will be from the Kwinana Aboriginal community. The Bridging the Gap Incorporated’s Families in Community project, Meerilinga Young Children’s Services Incorporated’s Gilmore College Crèche and Parenting Support program, and the Global Good Foundation received funding to support locals in obtaining or continuing education and work.
