Helping Ergonomic Workstation Products provide healthy work environments

Ergonomic Workstation Products is using the Indigenous Procurement Policy to reach new markets and expand their business, providing Australian Government staff with equipment that minimises risks of injury in office environments.

Ergonomic Workstation Products is an Indigenous-owned and operated business that is rapidly expanding. It provides equipment, installations, and custom alterations that minimise risks of injury in office environments.

Owner Gerard Ivinson said the growing understanding of the importance of ergonomics and workplace well-being ensures significant opportunities for growing his Indigenous business.

“This is an exploding market, dead set. If you think mining’s big, I think this is bigger than mining,” Gerard said.

“There’s some very big statistics being waved in the marketplace, and we’re trying to capture that.”

Gerard said an important part of their future expansion involves using the Indigenous Procurement Policy to reach new government markets, despite strong competition from large manufacturers.

“Some of our competitors would have a team of 14 people working on a tender, and I work on it by myself,” he said.

“So there’s got to be different ways we do our business, and it’s more about being customer-focused and selling ourselves and doing the job that we promised to do.”

“The Australian Taxation Office was one of the first ones that identified with us over 12 months ago and started sending business through to us, and recently we won a fairly large order through them.”

Gerard said he hopes to expand his business nationally over the coming years, supporting the employment of his family and Indigenous people in other locations around Australia.

“We’d love to have representation Australia-wide,” he said.

“I’d love to have an outlet in each of the capital cities so that we can provide good customer service and delivery asap. We’re making sure we don’t run too fast, but at the same time we don’t want to be left in the wake of the opportunities that are occurring out there.”
