Gummingurru: Men of the river - This Place
Traditional custodian, Shannon Bauwens, talks about Gummingurru, a learning place for young men.
For thousands of years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been naming places that were sacred or important to them.
This video is part of an ABC produced series named This Place. It tells the story behind one of these special places.
Traditional custodian Shannon Bauwens takes us to Gummingurru, a place name chosen by the Elders when their land was returned to them. The clusters of rocks on the land represents the distribution of people on their journey back to the coast.
