Each year, from the first Sunday of July to the second, NAIDOC week is run across Australia.

The theme for the 38th annual NAIDOC week is: ‘We value the vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the presentation of the Yirrkala Bark Petitions to the Federal Parliament.

National NAIDOC Committee co-chairs Anne Martin and Benjamin Mitchell said this year’s theme was about valuing the foresight, strength and determination of the Yolngu people who set into motion a long process of legislative and constitutional reforms for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

NAIDOC week aims to promote the celebration of the rich history, culture and all accomplishments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The week is celebrated not only throughout Indigenous communities, but also in many schools, workplaces and government agencies across the country.

With ceremonies and activities running across the country throughout July, there are many different ways to get involved in the celebrations.
