From strength to strength: IBA Good Business stories

Jobs, Land and Economy
Two men in dark shirts and trousers stand either side of a door which has a sign on it. The sign features the words Cameron Wellness Centre partially wrapped around an Aboriginal dot and line design.

Due to its organisational values of Family, Community, Trust and Respect, the Cameron Wellness Centre has achieved great success in providing services to participants on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Minang Jupa Galk man Reece Dumbell and Dean Sardellis of Greek and Cypriot heritage were introduced to each other by their wives at Dean’s wedding eight years ago.

‘Over time they realised they had a common motivation: seeing people with disabilities achieve the best outcomes in life.’

With a loan and support from Indigenous Business Australia, they founded the Cameron Wellness Centre which provides multidisciplinary services to participants on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). These services cover a large spectrum of disabilities and health issues and assist people ranging in age from children to adults.

The Cameron Wellness Centre in Geelong gets its name from Reece’s great grandfather, Kenneth Cameron who was born on Ramahyuk Mission (Gippsland).

Since its founding late in 2021, the business has grown rapidly and now employs 7 occupational therapists and one speech pathologist, all with different areas of specialisations and interests.

Talking about staff recruitment and using their organisational values as their guiding principal Reece said, ‘Part of our ethos is making sure the cultural fit of staff is right. When recruiting, we look for people who have buy-in to what we’re trying to build here at the Cameron Wellness Centre.’.
