The Healing Foundation will host a free concert on the lawns of Parliament House on 13 February to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations.
“We wanted to have an event that celebrated the spirit and intent of the Apology,” Healing Foundation CEO Richard Weston said.
“And who better to headline a concert than Archie Roach, a member of the Stolen Generations.”
The concert line-up will feature a host of award-winning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians including the Black Arm Band, Microwave Jenny, The Last Kinection and Dan Sultan.
Richard said the celebrations would involve people from across Australia sharing the progress of their own healing journeys.
“With support from FaHCSIA (the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) we’re funding 157 communities for events to celebrate the anniversary of the Apology,” Richard said.
“Stories from community events will be included in the [national] event to really get a sense of what of what the Apology meant for communities around Australia. .”
Richard explained that the event was a celebration for all Australians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous.
“The anniversary provides an opportunity for the non-Aboriginal community to stand with Aboriginal people and show their support.”
