Le’Khyden Georgetown of Cherbourg Queensland is the winner of the competition to design the 2020 Christmas card of Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt MP.

The Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon. Ken Wyatt MP, sought the help of students at Cherbourg State School to design his 2020 Christmas card.

A competition was announced at the school and students were invited to enter their Christmas card designs.

The competition attracted up to 60 entries and the winning design, chosen by Minister Wyatt himself, came from Year 3 student, Le’Khyden Georgetown.

Le’Khyden said he was shocked upon hearing he’d won but felt very happy.

‘My family are proud and said lots of nice stuff to me,’ he said.

When Le’Khyden was asked by his teacher to design a Christmas card, he was shown examples on the computer.

‘I thought I would start with the turtle which is a big part of Cherbourg and then the tree with presents on the branches and the snake also along the bottom and then every card needs a Santa,’ Le’Khyden said.

Le’Khyden, who plans to be a firefighter one day, said his favourite school subject is computers and he likes participating in the Clontarf program as well.

He uses the computer to create his own designs including animals, his favourite subject for art.

The Indigenous.gov.au team congratulate Le’Khyden and wish him well in the future and especially over the Christmas holidays.

‘We’re probably going with family to the Gold Coast and Chinchilla. I love visiting both the beach and the bush,’ he said.
