To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March, Indigenous.gov.au is showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are ‘pressing for progress’ in their own lives and in the lives of those in their communities.

International Women’s Day is 8 March, with a strong call to ‘Press for Progress’ the 2018 theme.

To commemorate this important day, Indigenous.gov.au searched its archives and found stories to share which showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are pressing for, and making progress for themselves and their communities.

We invite you to sit back, relax and read about some of the great things happening in this country because of high achieving, determined and sacrificing women.

These are just a few of the many wonderful things done by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in Australia that we’ve recorded over the past year.

To find more, browse Stories or use our Search field to find and enjoy them.

Finally, read the Statement by National NAIDOC Co-Chairs Dr Anne Martin & Mr Ben Mitchell about the theme for NAIDOC 2018: Because of her, We Can!
