A new soft fall surface under play equipment at Bamagau Kazil child-care centre makes for a safer play area, thanks to Bamaga Enterprises.

At Bamagau Kazil child-care centre in Far North Queensland, kids climbing on play equipment needed a softer surface to slip and fall onto.

And that’s where Bamaga Enterprises Ltd (BEL) came to the rescue.

A long-standing supporter of Bamagau Kazil, BEL contributed $50,000 to improve the safety of the centre’s new playground area.

Kate Gallaway, CEO of NPA Family & Community Services, which oversees the child-care centre, thanked BEL for its support.

‘The kids love the new soft fall and play on it daily,’ Kate said.

The ‘soft-fall’ base of the playground is a durable, springy material that provides some cushioning if children fall off equipment.

It is a safety requirement for the playground, which has been reinstalled.

BEL’s General Manager, Chris Foord, said BEL oversaw the works in December, which involved ground preparation and pouring wet rubber onto the surface.

‘Bamagau Kazil is a registered direct gift recipient and is one of only a few organisations in Bamaga that we can donate to directly,’ Chris said.

‘It provides a much-needed and welcomed facility with its day care and pre-school, which allows parents to continue in employment to support their families.’

Bamagau Kazil is a small, community organisation based in Bamaga, managed entirely by Torres Strait Islander women. It provides child-care services for Bamaga residents and surrounding communities.
