Applications now open for Work Exposure in Government (WEX) Program
WEX 2019 invites up to 70 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to Canberra to learn about career opportunities in the Australian Public Service.
If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student in Year 10, 11 or 12 and you are thinking about a career in the Australian Public Service (APS), then the Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program is for you.
Applications are now open for WEX 2019 which runs from Sunday 20 October to Friday 25 October 2019.
Up to 70 students will be selected from all states and territories and from a variety of geographical locations, ranging from very remote to urban.
Accommodation, transportation and meals are provided at no cost. WEX students are supported by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mentors, in addition to teachers and support staff.
Applications are also open for teachers and support staff, so get your teacher to apply too.
Over the week you will get to:
- meet government Ministers and parliamentarians
- visit the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Australian Federal Police headquarters
- visit national institutions such as Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and the Museum of Australian Democracy
- meet Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are enjoying successful and satisfying careers in the APS.
By the end of WEX, you will have a better understanding of what a career in the APS could look like.
