2013 Deadlys set to showcase achievement

Culture and Capability

Nominations are now open for the 2013 National Indigenous Music, Sport, Arts and Community Awards, better known as the Deadlys.

Nominations are now open for the 2013 National Indigenous Music, Sport, Arts and Community Awards, better known as the Deadlys.

The 19th annual Deadlys will be held at the Sydney Opera House on 10 September, showcasing the achievements and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the nation.

“The Deadlys will have all the excitement of a national awards night, and capture the year that was in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia,” Deadlys executive producer Gavin Jones said.

“In the past year there has been outstanding contribution and achievement across sport and music, film and television, visual arts, education, culture, science and employment, and in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

“One of the most enjoyable aspects for me as executive producer of the Deadlys is the opportunity to showcase our unique Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to the wider Australian public, and also to put forward our remarkable role models – the finalists and winners in the award categories – on a national stage, and honour that achievement.”

Nominations close on 30 June and finalists will be announced on 19 July 2013. There are 28 award categories across music, sport, the arts and the community which are open to the public for voting.

There are also four categories in the non-voting award categories, the Deadlys Hall of Fame.

Nominations are for contribution and achievements occurring from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013
