100% Finke River Culture and Adventures showing off Country

Jobs, Land and Economy

In the heart of Central Australia, where ancient traditions meet breathtaking landscapes, 100% Finke River Culture and Adventures is creating a path for local First Nations people.

In the heart of Central Australia, where ancient traditions meet breathtaking landscapes, 100% Finke River Culture and Adventures is creating a path for local First Nations people.

A First Nations owned and operated organisation, 100% Finke is delivering the Larapinta Trail Tourism Project which will provide real career pathways for local First Nations peoples, drawing on local cultural knowledge and tourism know-how.

At the helm of 100% Finke is Western Arrarnta man and Traditional Aboriginal Owner of Hermannsburg (Ntaria) Benjamin Kenny, ‘the company's mission is to create employment opportunities for local Aboriginal men and women. It's a collective effort where people from various cultural backgrounds come together to share knowledge, culture, and, most importantly, support each other,’ said Benji.

The business operates in the Tjoritja (West MacDonnell Ranges) and Ntaria (Hermannsburg) historical precinct, and delivers tours, hikes and cultural and history guided tours of the areas. One of the company's primary endeavours this year was centred on the iconic Larapinta Trek, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Arrernte people.

While the main focus remains on providing a genuine cultural experience for visitors, 100% Finke goes beyond tourism.

They currently employ around 20 First Nations staff, with plans to expand their workforce to 30-60 this year.

‘We want more people to come out and experience what tourism is like, so they can go back to their own Country and start their own business, if they want to start something we want to help them, that’s what we are about.

‘Some Aboriginal people find it really hard to find a job around here, this is something we open up for them, they come and do a little work and we support them on their journey, employing local Western Arrente men and women,’ said Benji.

100% Finke aim to employ as many First Nations staff as possible to experience the world of tourism firsthand, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to potentially start their own businesses and become entrepreneurs.

In doing so, 100% Finke River Culture and Adventures exemplify their commitment to nurturing local talent and sharing the beauty and richness of Central Australia with the world.

‘The work that we are doing shows all of Australia and the world that Central Australia is a beautiful place, filled with mystery and amazement. First Nations people are the best guides to showcase their Country. We want people to see what Central Australia is all about,’

‘It’s about working together, sharing culture and knowledge, not only with visitors but with each other,’ said Benji.

100% Finke River Culture and Adventures stands as an example of how partnerships between communities, governments, and local businesses can create opportunities, preserve culture, and promote the extraordinary heritage of Australia's First peoples.
