The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP: The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) Board election is on 28 November 2020 and all eligible Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to have their say on the future of the region.
The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) Board election is on 28 November 2020 and all eligible Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to have their say on the future of the region.
Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, said it’s important as many people as possible get involved since the TSRA sets the direction of the region and implements programs for the benefit of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people living in the Torres Strait.
"While the election is not compulsory, a high turn-out will result in a more representative Board," Minister Wyatt said.
"Fifty-one candidates have nominated for the 20 TSRA electoral wards and now is the time to consider who you will vote for and make a plan for election day.
"I encourage all Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people aged 18 or older, who are enrolled on the Commonwealth Electoral Roll at an address in a ward, to cast a vote in this year’s election and make sure your voice is heard.
"The Australian Electoral Commission has developed a COVID-19 Work Health and Safety Service Plan and there are a number of options for voting, so people can be assured the election is being conducted in a safe way."
