The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP

Minister for Indigenous Australians

The Morrison Government is extending access to the 1,000 Jobs Package to 30 June 2023, allowing employers in remote Australia more time to expand their businesses and take on new staff.

Minister for Indigenous Australians the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, said extending the program will ensure employers have continued access to over $50 million being invested to create employment opportunities for participants in the Community Development Program (CDP).

“The Morrison Government understands that there are unique challenges in securing sustainable work in remote Australia, so we are offering employers the flexibility they need to provide jobs and stimulate local economies,” Minister Wyatt said.

“Employers will now have the time to plan the longer term growth of their business and take on suitable CDP job seekers who have been training and developing their skills while building work experience.

“With the impacts of COVID-19, the extension to 2023 gives businesses the opportunity to engage with the subsidy, bring on new employees and access this program when it is right for them as they start to recover.”

The 1,000 Jobs Package is a demand driven wage program, offering subsidies for up to two years for new positions and retention bonuses to encourage businesses to create longer term employment.

Under the package employers can receive up to $57,000 over two years per person, to help them hire new staff in ongoing positions.

Eligible employers can also receive an additional $1,000 to support youth engagement in their community.

CDP Participants engaged in Youth Support positions may be eligible for a bonus of up to $2,000 over two years.

“Placing control into the hands of the community and using existing knowledge and connections is a key part of the Government’s plan to strengthen economies and communities,” Minister Wyatt said.
