Media release - Minister Wyatt
Following the success of Indigenous business and employment hubs in Western Sydney, Perth and Adelaide, the Hub network is expanding into Darwin, NT.
Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, said the new hub will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and job seekers to realise the ever-increasing opportunities being created through procurement policies and emerging commercial prospects as Australia recovers from COVID-19.
“Indigenous business and employment hubs provide mentorship, business advice, training and networking to ensure entrepreneurs and business owners are in the best position to access bigger markets.
“The Indigenous business and employment hub model has proven its success already and we are proud to be announcing a new Darwin hub during Indigenous Business Month, with satellite services in other key locations across the Northern Territory.
“The hub will provide wrap-around services for Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs to become more engaged with government and industry and be supported while they grow and tackle new opportunities.
“It will offer both a physical office location for access to bespoke business services and advice together with a range of online programs so people in remote and rural locations can also get a hand in accessing new markets and job opportunities.
“The Darwin hub will be co-designed with local Indigenous business leaders and other key Northern Territory stakeholders to provide the right solutions for the local market.”
Indigenous business hubs are a key component of the Morrison Government’s Indigenous Business Sector Strategy, providing business development, mentorship and access to financial services so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can grow their businesses into long-term and sustainable enterprises.
“Having a hub in Darwin will also extend the reach of the existing hubs, creating a nation-wide network where each can tap into broader expertise and continue to evolve to provide better services for the Indigenous business sector,” Minister Wyatt said.
In line with the Morrison Government’s own Indigenous Procurement Policy, the National Indigenous Australians Agency will be approaching the market from late October to secure the services of an Indigenous organisation to establish the hub.
