The National Indigenous Australians Agency’s annual Christmas card competition is now open for primary school students across the country.
Each year, Christmas card artwork has been selected by inviting students at schools participating in the Remote Schools Attendance Strategy, but this year the competition is open for all young students nationwide to get involved.
Minister for Indigenous Australians, The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, said the competition was an opportunity for every young Australian, no matter their background, to be inspired by Indigenous cultures.
“This year’s theme is Christmas in my community – it’s a wonderful chance for all young Australians to explore local Indigenous heritage, get creative and submit artworks inspired by the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures,” Minister Wyatt said.
“The holiday season is a great time to reflect on the year that’s passed, thank everyone who has helped us to achieve great things, and look forward to the year to come.
“I send an annual Christmas card to do just that, and like to include a young person’s artwork on my card to remind everyone it’s our next generation that we work so hard for.
“The competition will be hosted on indigenous.gov.au and I will select a winner to receive a prize pack and to have their artwork featured on my 2021 card that goes to hundreds of people who dedicate themselves to improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“Our communities are so important in supporting us, teaching us, and helping us grow. I can’t wait to see the wonderful expressions and representations of communities from all corners of this great land.”
Any student aged 5 to 12 years and who is enrolled in school can enter the competition.
