Help the visual arts industry grow

Culture and Capability
Three Indigneous artists working on a painting.

If you are involved with the Indigenous visual arts sector, we want to hear from you on ways to help the industry grow.

Art is an important way for Indigenous Australians to tell stories, share culture, understand and explore Country and history, build community, and earn money.

If you’re involved in the visual arts sector, we want to hear from you about how we can help grow the industy, continue to promote economic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and promote ethical dealing.

Today the Australian Government has released a consultation paper on Growing the Indigneous Visual Arts Industry.

We want to hear from people to help us understand how you interact with the sector, your experiences and what the Government can do to help grow the Indigenous visual arts industry.

In particular, we want to hear your thoughts on:

  • how the Indigenous art market can recover from coronavirus and continue to grow
  • what is needed to build skills in the industry and to create professional pathways for artists and arts workers
  • what can be done to help artists connect with buyers in Australia and internationally
  • how to have better legal protections in place for artists and more awareness of ethical practices in the industry.

Your feedback will help to develop an Indigenous Visual Art Action Plan to support artists that will be released in 2021.
