The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) and Gab Titui Cultural Centre (GTCC) proudly announced the launch of its new online shop on Monday, 1 June 2020.

Accessible through the Gab Titui’s existing website, customers will be able to explore the range of authentic artworks and products created by Torres Trait and Aboriginal artists fro the region.

The launch coincided with National Reconciliation Week 2020, a significant week to reflect and recognise the nation’s Indigenous culture and heritage.

TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said the online shop is the ideal way to promote local Indigenous art and products to a larger audience.

“There is growing interest and demand for original artworks created by Torres Strait and Aboriginal artists in the region,” Mr Stephen said.

“Due to COVID 19 and the temporary closure of the GTCC, the centre has increased its online presence to include works from local Torres Strait and Aboriginal artists to reach audiences across the globe.

“The team has been working hard on finding alternative means to deliver activities to service our communities. Developing new opportunities to support and promote local artists through the online shop is excellent result.

“The new online shop will feature a range of products by local artists from lino prints, canvas, sculptures, as well carvings, jewellery, clothing and much more.

“We believe that the online shop is the best way for the GTCC to support the growth and development of local art and artists and promote them to a wider audience.”

Customers can access the shop via the GTCC website.
