Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data
Co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners, the Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data will support improved access to government-held Indigenous data for First Nations Australians, to better reflect their priorities and aspirations.
Better outcomes are achieved when First Nations people have a genuine say in matters affecting them—including the use of data to inform policy-making in government.
The Framework also calls for data-related capability building, both within Government, and amongst First Nations people, communities and organisations.
Recognising the importance of data for self-determination, the Framework will help to increase awareness and support for Indigenous Data Sovereignty amongst Government agencies.
The Framework will support the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, in particular Priority Reform Three (Transforming Government Organisations) and Priority Reform Four (Shared Access to Data and Information at a Regional Level).
