CSIRO STEM Indigenous Scholarship Program applications open

Opportunities available to gain real life research experience at CSIRO.

The NCMI Indigenous Scholarship Program (NISP) is an initiative of the CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Business Unit to enhance the educational, employment, training and career development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The program offers opportunities to promising tertiary students in several scientific, engineering and business-related disciplines.

Atlas of Living Australia

Location: Black Mountain, Canberra ACT (however a flexible working arrangement may be possible)

Two positions available for second or third year STEM undergraduate students who can demonstrate sound understanding of data and programing to join the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) for 10 weeks in the summer vacation break.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to directly liaise with current ALA data providers, which include national leading research entities and researchers, various levels of government bodies, and citizen science organisations.

Marine National Facility - Data Acquisition and Processing

Location: Hobart (Battery Point). TAS

An opportunity for a final year university student majoring in Computer Science to join the Data Acquisition and Processing (DAP) team to work on the Seagoing Science Instrument Configuration Control System project for 8-12 weeks during the summer vacation break.

The successful applicant will support the Instrument Database components of the project which will aim to minimise transcription errors by transferring calibration data electronically rather than on paper.

Scholarships typically run over the Australian summer holidays with placements beginning in late November or early December.

Students will receive a stipend for the duration of their scholarship and in some cases, may also receive a contribution towards travel and accommodation costs.
