Media release - Minister Wyatt
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) has released a draft report of the comprehensive review of the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI ACT).
The draft report has been informed by feedback received through phase one of the review and considers a range of issues including whether the CATSI Act is meeting its objectives and if it is still suitable as a special measure for the advancement and protection of Indigenous people.
The NIAA will now commence a period of consultation, finishing in September, where all interested parties are invited to comment on the draft report as well as make any further submissions to the review.
The Government is considering a range of possible amendments to the CATSI Act.
Public submissions are vital to ensure that the final report presented to Parliament later this year captures the community’s views.
There are a number of ways people can contribute to the review including through surveys on the NIAA’s website, sending a submission to CATSIActReview@niaa.gov.au and participating in a virtual consultation session.
The draft report and consultation opportunities are available on the NIAA website.
