Applications are invited from organisations for grant funding to help improve the employment prospects of people with disability – particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and rural and remote Australia.

Announcement - Department of Social Services

Applications are invited from organisations for grant funding of up to $1.2 million that help improve the employment prospects of people with disability – particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and rural and remote Australia.

A total of $39.9 million is available with funding of between $250,000 and $1,200,000 available to deliver activities in 2021-22.

The projects will need to assist people with disability to enter or remain in work, through structural or cultural changes to the workplace, or through upskilling people with disability to increase their work-related skills and knowledge.

This grant round has a particular focus on limiting the impacts of coronavirus for people with disability to either enter or remain in work.

The types of activities that are expected to be funded under these rounds include:

  • Activities that offer education and training in employment related skills and knowledge
  • Cadetships and graduate programs providing work experience that can lead to a real prospect of employment, including self-employment
  • Development initiatives, such as coaching or mentoring, to build confidence and career planning
  • Networking initiatives, both online and face to face, that build the interconnectedness of employers and other stakeholders
  • Mentoring of employers who are exploring employment opportunities for people with disability
  • Activities that correct stereotypes and preconceptions regarding people with disability in the workplace
  • Programs offering employers job design and workplace assessments on how to adapt the workplace to provide reasonable adjustments for people with disability
  • Any other activities that meet the objectives of the grant round.

The grant round is open from 28 October 2020 until 11pm (AEDT) on 8 December 2020.

Future ILC grant opportunities are expected to be offered for longer-term arrangements.
