Media release - Minister Wyatt

Indigenous agricultural, primary industry and land management businesses operating in remote Australia now have access to a new grants round to build or improve their infrastructure.

Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, has opened the Indigenous Land Enterprise Infrastructure Fund (ILEIF) for applications for grants of up to $300,000 for a wide range of activities to expand businesses or improve viability.

“This funding will increase the value of remote businesses, provide new market expansion opportunities, and deliver much needed infrastructure upgrades and new builds, while also creating jobs for Indigenous Australians,” Minister Wyatt said.

“Grants may be used for business-related projects such as off-grid solar power systems or upgrades to bores, fences, stock yards, water tanks, dam silt traps, sheds, or irrigation systems.

“Infrastructure to support a wide range of environmental, natural resource and cultural heritage management activities may also be considered for funding, including dust mitigation, fire management, weed and feral animal control.”

The Indigenous Land Enterprise Infrastructure Fund grant opportunity was announced as part of the Indigenous Skills and Jobs Advancement Package in the 2021-22 Budget to help communities recover from COVID‑19, support economic growth and provide jobs on country.

“Businesses will also be able to access advisory services to help identify and design the most beneficial activities for any given location and for advice on supply and installation.”

The first grant round for the Indigenous Land Enterprise Infrastructure Fund will be open until 8 November 2021 and the second round will be run in 2022–23 financial year.
