A Child and Family Centre (CFC) to support the ongoing development and education of young children and families in Yuendumu has been officially opened today by the Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments.

Commonwealth Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, and Northern Territory Minister for Education, Peter Chandler, jointly opened the centre, which can cater for up to 65 children from birth through to six years of age. The Yuendumu CFC was constructed with funding from the Australian Government.

Aboriginal rangers in the Murray-Darling Basin are a key to keeping the environment in good shape and are undertaking training in bush regeneration. 

I congratulate Professor Pat Dodson on being nominated to fill the Senate vacancy for the Australian Labor Party in Western Australia.

Should Professor Dodson fill the position, he will bring a great deal of political and life experience around First Australians to the Parliament.

This year’s Closing the Gap report has highlighted there are still major challenges to eliminate Indigenous disadvantage, despite the progress that is being made.

MSS Security has signed an agreement with the Australian Government to grow its Indigenous employment rate from 2.3 per cent to 6.5 per cent by the end of 2018-19.

Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, who launched MSS Security’s Employment Parity Initiative (EPI) Agreement in Parliament House today, said the Government was working with Australia’s largest employers to ensure their workforces reflected the size of Australia’s Indigenous population.
